STEPHENVILLE, Texas - The No. 21 Angelo State volleyball team fell on the road in three sets (22-25,14-25,17-25) to No.11 Tarleton State on Tuesday night.
The Belles slid to 15-7 overall and 7-6 in the Lone Star Conference with Tuesday's loss. The ASU offense hit a .131 clip for the night. Leading the attack, seniors Brianna Sotello (8) and Morgan Seaton (7) marked team highs for the match. Defensively, the Belles were out blocked by the TexAnnsn, 10-6. With the home win Tarleton State improved to 21-4, 13-1 LSC.
Setter Meghan Parker got things started for the Belles as she fired in an ace for the first point of the match. The sophomore also headed the offense distributing a team high 13 balls. TSU quickly responded with a 5-2 run that would take the lead from the ASU. A TexAnn service error was followed by a Bailey Drum solo block that would place the score back at an even five. Both teams would continue to battle until a TSU 7-2 run would give the TexAnns a 15-11 lead. Then an Anna Graham, an Eadara Files ace and another Drum solo block along with a TSU error would tie the score at 15. Both sides would keep the score tight as they traded points; however with the score ties a 20, Tarleton State pulled away and took the 1-0 set lead.
A Seaton kill would place the Belles on the board first in the second set, but a 6-2 run would turn the lead over to TSU. Graham then fired in a kill that only briefly halted TSU as they followed up with three straight points to push the TexAnn lead to 9-4. After a Drum kill, Tulani Titley and Sundara Chinn checked in with a block, but it would not be enough for the Belles to regain its footing. Despite a 4-0 run later in the set, which was headed by a pair of Belles blocks, three more Tarleton State runs would close out the set and secure the 2-0 lead in the match.
In the final set, Tarleton State would come out determined to put away the match as it jumped out to a 10-6 lead. Kills by Sotello and Graham as well as a pair of attack errors by the TexAnns would close the gap to within three at 13-10. The remainder of the set would see swings from Leiyona Young, Sotello, Seaton and Drum but the Belles would be unable to close in any further as TSU would pocket the sweep.
The Belles continue its road trip with stops at West Texas A&M on Friday, October 27 and UT-Permian Basin on Saturday, October 28. First serve against the Lady Buffs is slated for 6 p.m., while Saturday's matchup in Odessa, Texas against the Falcons will begin 1 p.m. Â Â
