SAN ANGELO – The No. 23 Angelo State volleyball team plays host to Texas A&M – Kingsville on Tuesday night.
Entering the mid-week matchup with the Javelinas, the Belles currently sit fifth in the conference with a 16-8, 8-7 LSC record. With first serve for the match slated for 7 p.m., Angelo State will be looking to build off its last win over UT-Permian Basin. The ASU attack is averaging 14.0 kills per set and a .233 attack percentage on the year, both of which rank second in the conference stats. While, its defense lead the LSC with 17.31 digs per set and has averaged a 2.09 blocks per set.
TAMUK will be entering the Stephens Arena at the Junell Center with a 17-10, 9-6 LSC record. The Javelinas are currently seeded fourth in the conference standings. In the last meeting between the two squads the Belles emerged from Kingsville, Texas victorious from a match that went the distance. Texas A&M – Kingsville will be seeking to rebound after a 3-1 loss to Texas A&M- Commerce on the road.
The Belles will continue to look to senior team leaders Brianna Sotello and Morgan Seaton to produce on both sides of the ball. Sotello is rocking a 3.89 kills per set average and a .253 attack percentage heading into the mid-week matchup. She continues to aid the ASU defense with an average of 3.02 digs per set. Sotello has also recorded a team third 38.0 total blocks on the year. Rounding out the duo, Seaton was a role player in the Belles offensive attack last week as she turned in a .364 clip for the week and averaged 2.18 kills per set. The Big Spring, Texas native also dropped in a squad leading five combined service aces for the three matches. The middle blocker continues to maintain her spot on top of the team's list with 11 total blocks last week. This has averaged her 0.94 blocks per set this season.
Adding to the team's all-around producers are Sundara Chinn and Anna Graham. Chinn, who is second on the team with 2.67 kills per set, is also sporting a current attack percentage of .239. She continues to put up numbers on the defensive side of the ball with a team third 38 total blocks thus far. With a 2.45 kill per set average, Graham is third in the category. The sophomore has recorded a team second .275 attack percentage on the season. She has also added 63 blocks to aid the defense this season.
Setting the rock for the Belles will be Meghan Parker and Eadara Files. With an 8.55 assist per set average, Parker will continue to handle the majority of the distribution for the Belles. This past week the sophomore added 92 total assists to her numbers averaging 8.36 assists per set. Over the past three matches she has fired in a total of four service aces and continues to lead ASU with 29 on the year. The San Antonio native also assisted the ASU defense with 20 total digs for the week. Fellow sophomore, Files, has also continued to build upon her numbers with a 4.72 assist per set average and 340 total assists on the season.
Heading the ASU defense will be the Belles two defensive specialists, Micheala Sifuentes and Bailey Mulder. Sifuentes continues to lead the team with 4.85 dig per set. She has also produced from the service line with 19 total aces to aid the team's offensive success this season. Mulder completes the duo with a 2.31 dig per set average. She has also been proficient from the service line with 18 total aces this year.
