Belles Return Home Tuesday Against Texas A&M-Kingsville

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team returns to Stephens Arena at the Junell Center for a LSC game against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 5:30 p.m.

The Belles are on a four game win streak and have improved their record to 12-4 and 7-3 in the LSC. ASU is tops in the league in scoring (72.5), rebounding offense (3.8), offensive rebounds (15.9) and blocked shots (4.88). Angelo State grabbed 30 offensive rebounds against WNMU which is the first time that has happened in a game since 2000. ASU is also 10-1 when scoring at least 65 points offensively.

This is the second matchup between Texas A&M-Kingsville and Angelo State with the Belles winning the first contest 62-46 on the road. The Javelinas are 5-13 overall and 2-8 in the LSC. ASU forced 20 TAMUK turnovers in the first matchup and scored 15 second chance points off 14 offensive rebounds.

As a team, four players are averaging double figured in points and two are above nine points per game. Three players are also rebounding at least seven boards per contest.

De'Anira Moore, who is ranked nationally at No. 5 in offensive rebounds (74) and No. 8 in blocked shots (49), leads the team with 13.1 points per game. She is grabbing a little over 9.3 rebounds per game along with 16 assists.  The sophomore has totaled seven games with double-digit rebounds and 12 with at least 10 points.

Marquita Daniels is one of the top in the nation in steals at No. 8 in steals per game (3.43) and No. 11 in total steals (55). She scored 12.3 points per game and is tops on the team with 51 assists. She has made 42.8 percent from the field and has earned LSC Defensive Player of the Week Honors twice this season.

Dezirae Hampton has scored in double figures in 10 straight games and 14 of 16 total. The junior is scoring 11.8 points per game while also grabbing 7.0 rebounds. She has dished out 29 assists and added 13 steals.

Ekiya Gray is scoring 11.1 points per game and 8.9 rebounds per game in nine games this season. She has the highest shooting percentage at 47.2 percent from the field.  The senior has recorded back-to-back double-doubles while on the New Mexico road trip. She has 17 steals and 13 assists on the season as well.

Keanna Kelly and Madi Greenwood are scoring right above nine points per game. Kelly is at 9.6 while Greenweood is at 94. Greenwood is also sound at the free throw line hitting 91.8 percent which is No. 10 in free throw percentage nationally. Kelly has made the most 3-pointers with 26 on the season while Greenwood has 22.

Kynese Davis, Mikayla Blount, Dearria Watson and Aaliyah Warren have all made significant contributions of the bench. Davis has the second most assists on the team with 38 while Blount has made 92.3 percent from the free throw line. Watson scored 1.4 points per game with 1.7 rebounds and Warren scored two crucial points in the win over ENMU.
