SAN ANGELO – The No.6 Angelo State softball team enters its 12th consecutive NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament as the No. 2 seed and will face No. 7 Colorado Christian at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Mayer Field.
The Rambelles enter with a 47-7 overall record and are 23-3 at Mayer Field. ASU won the LSC Championships and the LSC Tournament Championship while hitting .336 and maintaining a 1.97 earned run average. It will be the 15th appearance in the last 17 seasons at the regional tournament and the 14th under head coach Travis Scott.
Colorado Christian has a 43-13 record overall and is 12-8 on the road. It will be the first meeting between the two programs. The winner of the game will face the winner of West Texas A&M and Cameron at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 11.
The pitching duo of Brandy Marlett and Morgan Hill have been dynamic of Angelo State. Marlett, the LSC Pitcher of the Year, is 23-3 with two saves on the year with a 1.72 ERA. She has 12 complete games and five shutouts on the year. The Nevada native leads the team with 172 strikeouts and has only allowed 46 runs on the season. Hill, a first team All-LSC selection, is 22-4 on the year with a 1.74 ERA and has added two saves. She has thrown 152.2 innings and struck out 129 on the year. The senior has eight complete games and like Marlett only allowed 46 runs.
Meagan Hill and Makayla Corbin have provided depth combining for 15 appearances. Megan Hill is 2-0 on the season in 23.1 innings pitched while Corbin has two saves.
The offense is led by junior catcher Taegan Kirk. She has hit .432 this season with a team-high 73 hits. The Lubbock native has the team lead in doubles (18), RBIs (61) and slugging percentage (.787). She has also thrown out 14 base runners while only allowing 13 steals on the season. Kirk has also scored 40 runs.
Bailey Wallace has 59 hits with a .376 average. She has recorded eight doubles and four home runs while scoring 51 runs. She has been hit 20 times with a pitch and has stolen 13 bases.
Madison Greenwell is second on the team with 72 hits. She has a season average of .373 and has recorded nine doubles, two triples and three home runs. She has scored 48 times while driving in 36 on the year. The Flower Mound native is second on the team with 25 stolen bases.
Danae Binna, Taylor Fogle and Jade Strother are all hitting .333 on the year. Bina has 44 hits, six doubles, three triples and two home runs on the season. She leads the team with 26 stolen bases and has drawn 17 walks. The Kansas Native also has scored 38 runs. Fogle has come on strong towards the end of the season with 38 hits, eight doubles and nine home runs. She has driven in 35 RBIs and drawn 18 walks. Strother has 26 hits and scored 29 times. She has the most walks of the three with 19 on the year.
Karina Rocha has the team lead in home runs with 16 on the year while also adding 11 doubles. She has a total of 43 hits while scoring 34 runs and driven in 47 on the year. The Buda native has a .761 slugging percentage and drawn a team-high 35 walks.
Courtney Barnhill has 38 hits with a .317 average. She has six doubles, one triple and 13 home runs on the year. She has driven in 38 RBIs and 35 runs scored. The Lubbock native has a .708 slugging percentage and is second on the team with 27 walks.
Brooke Mangold has 29 hits and scored 32 runs on the year. She has two doubles, two triples and one home run this season. She has 22 stolen bases on the year and drawn 11 walks.
Other Rambelles providing depth include Jacqueline Montejano, Heather Reatherford, Amanda Ramage, Mylonee Becerra and Megan Gordon.
