SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State University Belle Basketball team played a dominant game against the Northern New Mexico Lady Eagles, winning the game 108-41.
In Case You Missed It:
First Quarter
- Northern New Mexico started the game off in the lead of a layup, and that would be the only time that the Lady Eagles would have the lead throughout the rest of the game.
- Sawyer Lloyd started the momentum for the Belles as she made a three for ASU, 3-2.
- Lloyd, Lana Marov, and De'Anira Moore made several three pointers and two point jump shots to bring Angelo States lead to 25-8 late in the first quarter.
- A layup from Moore ended the first quarter for the Belles, 27-10.
Second Quarter
- Two jump shots from Kinley Brown kept Angelo States momentum going, 30-10.
- Moore and Samantha Rocha free throws increased the Belles lead to 22 points, 36-14.
- Layups from Catara Samuel and Angel Hayden increased their lead to 43-14 over the Lady Eagles.
- A layup and two free throws from Asia Davis gave Angelo State a 33 point lead over Northern New Mexico, 50-17.
- A three pointer from Patricia French gave Coach Harris the chance to run some new options for offense and defense.
Third Quarter
- Coach Harris implemented some new offensive and defensive strategies to start the third quarter, which proved fairly effective as Angelo State jumped to a 35 point lead off of a layup from Moore and a three pointer from Samuel.
- Angelo States dominating offensive and defensive prowess showed as ASU's lead continued to grow larger with a layup from Samuel and a jump shot from Davis grew the Belles lead to 69-28.
- Samantha Rocha showed her offensive skills as a forward for the Belles, making several layups and jump shots to increase the Belles lead even further, 78-30.
- A layup from Samuel ended the third quarter for the Belles, 87-30.
Fourth Quarter
- The Belles offensive capabilities showed themselves in the fourth quarter more so than the other three with Lloyd scoring her first collegiate double-double in the last quarter of the game, ending with 14 point and 10 rebounds.
- Angelo States lead grew to a maximum of 69 with a layup from Rocha with the score at 105-36.
- A free throw from Dearria Watson ended the game for the Belles, 108-41.
Key Players:
- Sawyer Lloyd scored her first collegiate double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, three on offense and seven on defense. Lloyd shot 5-10 from the field, and 4-6 from the three point line.
- De'Anira Moore continues to be one of ASU's main scorers, scoring 16 points for the Belles. Moore registered three rebounds total, all of them on defense, and shot 5-6 from the field, 1-1 from the three point line, and 5-6 from the free throw line. Moore also registered an assist and one block.
- Kinley Brown scored 17 points for the Belles, shooting 5-8 from the field, 3-5 from the three point line, and 4-6 from the free throw line. Brown registered four rebounds total, all on defense, two assists, and one steal.
