Rambelles Defeat Tarleton State At Home

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State University Belles basketball team defeated the Tarleton State Texans in a nail-biting game as the Belles came from behind to win against the Texans, 60-57.
 
In Case You Missed It:
First Quarter
  • The Texans jumped into an early 7-0 lead off of several layups and a made three pointer.
  • A jump shot from Sawyer Lloyd put the Belles on the board, 7-2.
  • A layup from Catara Samuel and a three pointer from Samantha Rocha closed the distance to just two points for the Belles, 9-7.
  • Two free throws and a layup from De'Anira Moore brought the Belles to a three-point deficit against the Texans, 14-11.
  • A fast break layup from Lloyd ended the first quarter for the Belles, with Angelo State trailing behind the Texans, 16-13.
Second Quarter
  • Tarleton started the second quarter off similarly to the first with a made three-pointer, extending their lead to six points, 19-13.
  • Several made free throws from Samuel and Rocha cut the Texans lead to five, 20-15.
  • Tarleton continued to hold control of the second quarter and not letting the Belles gain any momentum or a scoring drive, keeping them to a minimum five-point deficit going into halftime, thanks to Dearria Watsons layup in the final 30 seconds of the quarter, 28-23.
Third Quarter
  • The Belles came swinging in the third quarter as Moore and Samuel both made jump shots to cut the Texans lead to just one point, 28-27.
  • A jump shot and two made free throws from TSU extended their lead once again to five, but two made free throws from Angelo Hayden brought their lead to three, 34-31.
  • Two jump shots made by Asia Davis brought the Texans lead to one once again, but Tarleton answered one of the jump shots with one of their own, extending their lead to 38-35.
  • A made jump shot from Hayden and a made free throw from Watson put the Belles in a good position to take the lead away from the Texans leading into the fourth quarter, 40-38.
Fourth Quarter
  • Two made free throws from Moore tied the game up at 40, and a layup from Lloyd put ASU in the lead for the first time all game, 42-40.
  • A layup from Samuel and a made three pointer from Lana Marov extended the Belles lead to five, 47-42.
  • A fast break layup from Davis brought ASU to its biggest lead of the night at seven, 49-42.
  • A layup and two made three pointers from Tarleton brought ASU's lead to one point, but a made jump shot and free throw from Samuel, and a layup from Moore brought Angelo State back to a six-point lead over the Texans, 56-50.
  • Two more made free throws from Samuel brought the Blue and Gold to a 60-54 lead over Tarleton State.
  • The Texans attempted to make a last-minute comeback with a made layup and free throw from a foul, but ASU would be victorious and add a win to their conference play, 60-57.
 
Key Players:
  • De'Anira Moore once again was Angelo States top scorer for the game, scoring 16 points, shooting 6-10 from the field and 4-5 from the free throw line. Moore registered six rebounds, three on offense and defense, one block, and two steals.
  • Samantha Rocha scored eight points, shooting 3-6 from the field, 1-2 from the three point line, and 1-2 from the free throw line. Rocha registered eight rebounds total, one on offense and seven on defense, as well as two blocks and one steal.
  • Catara Samuel scored 12 points for ASU, shooting 4-11 from the field and 4-6 from the free throw line. Samuel registered eight total rebounds, one on offense and seven on defense, as well as six assists.
