Rambelles Defeat WT, Move Onto Semifinals

DENVER, Colorado – The Angelo State University Belle volleyball team defeated West Texas A&M in a hard fought four set victory at Regis University.
The Belles are now 29-2 overall this season.
 
In Case You Missed It:
Set One
  • West Texas jumped to an 4-1 lead early on in the first set off of multiple kills.
  • Kills from Sophia Berg and Sundara Chinn cut the Buffs lead to two points, 5-3.
  • With Morgan Preston to serve for the Belles, she gave Angelo State its first major lead of the set, serving for six straight points, including a service ace. Kills from Baleigh Allen and Haley Coulter pushed ASU to an 11-5 lead over West Texas A&M.
  • A kill from Bailey Drum and two straight service points for Makenna Hanssen brought the Belles to a 17-10 lead.
  • The Buffs found their second wind however, scoring 10 points, while ASU only scored two. A kill from Allen tied the set up at 20-20.
  • WT pushed through Angelo's defenses in the end, winning the first set, 25-22.
 
Set Two
  • The Belles came back with a vengeance in set two though, quickly jumping to a 4-0 lead over WT with several kills from Berg and a service ace from Hanssen.
  • Kills from Kailyn Gilbreath and Allen brought ASU to a 7-1 lead.
  • WT Attempted a comeback, cutting the Blue and Golds lead to just three points at 8-5.
  • Chloe Patton served for two points for the Belles, and kills from Meghan Parker and Berg brought the Blue and Gold to a 13-8 lead over the Buffs.
  • Gilbreath served for six straight points late in set two, extending the Belles lead to nine at 23-14.
  • Kills from Parker and Patton ended set two in favor of the Belles, 25-14.
 
Set Three
  • Hanssens serving abilities showed themselves early on in set three as the Belles jumped to an early 3-0 lead over WT.
  • WT quickly responded with two points of their own, 3-2.
  • Preston once again extended the Belles lead with her serving capabilities, serving for two points as Allen added another kill to bring ASU's lead to 8-3.
  • Pattons serving abilities and several attack errors from WT brought ASU to a 13-8 lead over the Buffs.
  • Kills from Gilbreath and Allen, and an attack error from WT, kept Angelos five point lead intact, 17-12.
  • Kills from Chinn and a service ace from Parker brought the Belles to a 23-17 lead over WT.
  • A kill from Gilbreath ended set three in favor of the Belles, 25-19.
 
Set Four
  • Set four started out slowly for both the Belles and the Buffs as both teams continued to play their hardest, both teams scrambling for points and the lead over the other.
  • Kills from Chinn and Berg, combined with a service ace from Lindsey Ledyard, the Blue and Gold pulled far enough away to gain a small lead over WT, 11-9.
  • Kills from Allen and an attack error from WT extended the Belles lead to 15-11.
  • The Buffs found another second wind however, scoring four unanswered points to cut the Belles lead to one point, 18-17.
  • Kills form Gilbreath and Drum, along with Coulters fantastic serves, brought the Buffs down in set four as the Belles won, 25-20, paving the way for the South Central Regional Semifinal match.

Key Players:
  • Sundara Chinn led the charge the Belles offense, registering 17 kills against the Buffs. Kailyn Gilbreath followed closely behind with 15 kills.
  • Lindsey Ledyard and Meghan Parker combined together for 44 assists against West Texas A&M. Ledyard registered 17 digs, while Parker registered six.
  • Ledyard led the Belles defensively, registering 17 total digs, while Makenna Hanssen finished with 13.
 
Up Next:
The Belles take on the winner between the No. 2 seed, Colorado School of Mines, and the No. 6 seed, Tarleton State in the Semifinal match of the Regional Tournament. The match will start at 5 p.m. on Friday, December 6.
