AUSTIN, TX – The Angelo State Rams dropped the final game of their regular season to the St. Edward's Hilltoppers 7-6 Tuesday afternoon. The Rams loss was a result of not doing what they had previously done best, hit the ball well with runners on or in scoring position. In fact, the Rams had actually been hitting at a higher average in situations where they could advance a runner or bring a runner into score. In the final game of their regular season they would strand nine runners on base.
It was a quiet start to the game as neither team would score until the third inning, when Parker Bramlett would be brought home on a wild pitch. Josh Elvir homered in the top of the fourth to give the Rams a 2-0 lead, but the Hilltoppers answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning, and then scored three more in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead. The teams would go blow-for-blow once more in the sixth with a run a piece and the Rams would play catch up from there, eventually scoring the three runs they needed to tie the game up at 6-6 thanks to a single run in the eighth and two more in the ninth.
The Hilltoppers were not able to score in the bottom of the ninth so the game went into extra innings at 6-6. The Rams would go three up and three down in the top of the tenth before St. Edward's would hit their walk-off single in the bottom of the inning to come away with the 7-6 win over the #1 ranked Rams.
Angelo State ends their regular season of play at 42-8, the winningest regular season in program history. The Rams have seen numerous records set or advanced towards this season, and will head to Canyon for the conference tournament in a week.
