Rams Welcome Aggies to Foster Field

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 1 Angelo State University baseball team returns home for its first four game series of the season against Cameron University beginning on Friday, February 14 through Sunday, February 16. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. on Friday.

Series History
Since the baseball program began at ASU, the Rams lead the all-time series 44-14. The last time these two teams met was in the Lone Star Conference Championship on May 10, 2019 with CU taking a 12-3 victory over ASU. At Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium, the Blue and Gold are 23-4 against the Aggies and hold an 8-2 record over the last 10 matchups.
 
Scouting Cameron
The Aggies come to Foster Field at FCCU Stadium with a 1-5 record on the season and in conference action. In the batter's box, Cooper Edwards leads the Cameron offense with a .500 batting average. He is 7-of-14 from the plate and has notched two hits and two runs with one RBI. Izrael Trevino assists on the offense and holds a .240 batting average. He leads the team with three RBI and has scored four runs for the Aggies. He has tallied two home runs and one triple in six hits.
 
On the mound, Tyler Garcia leads the pitchers with a 2.08 ERA as a relief. In two appearances on the mound, he has pitched 4.1 innings with one struck out and has given up one run. Kalen Haynes leads the starting pitchers with a 3.52 ERA. In two appearances, Haynes has pitched 7.2 innings giving up six hits and seven runs with three of them earned. He has struck out five batters and holds the opponents to a .214 batting average.
 
Key Players
Bradley Mathiowetz has dominated the Rams offense in his return as he leads the team with 10 RBI. Mathiowetz owns a .375 batting average through six games. He has tallied a double, a triple, and a home in six games.
 
Josh Elvir is right behind Mathiowetz with seven RBI. Elvir has played and started in all six games to start the season and holds a .450 batting average. In the box, he has gone 9-for-20 and has notched four doubles and a home run and has scored nine runs.
 
On the mound, Benjamin Elder and Trent Baker are aces for the Rams. Elder tallied a season-high 12 strikeouts against OCU to bring his total to 18 strikeouts on the season in 10 innings of work. He has allowed five hits and two runs. He holds opponents to a .132 batting average. Baker has pitched 12.0 innings and owns a 1.50 ERA. He has struck out 18 batters as well and holds the opponents to a .171 batting average.

Following the series this weekend, the Rams will hit the road and head to Lubbock, Texas, for a four-game series against Lubbock Christian University beginning on Friday, February 21. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. on Friday.
