SAN ANGELO – In a matchup of two of the three teams left unblemished in LSC play, the Belles turned in one of their best all-around performances of the season in front of a season-high crowd inside Stephens Arena Wednesday night, sweeping previously unbeaten Lubbock Christian.
The first set proved to be the closest between the two teams, with both sides trading points and neither side able to pull away from the other one. However, it was the Belles that claimed the first set 25-20 thanks to a
Baleigh Allen kill.
Set two was a much different story for both teams, with the Belles recording 18 kills in the set as well as a 13-1 set where
Jaedyn Woolley and
Makenna Hanssen both held serve for six points each.
The Lady Chaps took an early lead in set three, but the Belles eventually fougth back, winning the set 25-17, with the match being capped off by another Allen kill, for which she had four of in the match.
The Belles held the Lady Chaps to an .078 attack percentage, the eighth time this season they have held an opponent below the .100 mark. The mark was also a season-low for LCU, with their 27 kills also representing a season-low.
A pair of Belles –
Delaney Fuller and
Kailyn Gilbreath – recorded double-doubles in the contest. Fuller recorded a game-high 13 kills as well as 10 digs, hitting .400 for the match, while Gilbreath notched 12 kills to go along with 21 assists, hitting .500 for the match.
The Belles' 51 kills are a season-high in a three-set match, and they hit .296 as a team;
Jaedyn Woolley assisted a game-high 22 times in this match, which marks the third time this season she recorded 20 or more assists and the first time this season she out-assisted fellow setter Gilbreath.
Defensively,
Chloe Patton recorded 17 digs, the most she's recorded in a conference match this season, while Hanssen recorded ten digs of her own and Allen recorded a solo block as well as three block assists.
The Belles improve to 14-2 overall on the season and 7-0 in conference play. They return to action next Friday and Saturday, going on the road to Texas Woman's and DBU, respectively.
