LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 7 Angelo State Belle volleyball team showed their talent and skills as they swept the Lubbock Christian Chaps in three straight sets, 3-0.
The Belles move to a 5-0 overall and conference record, whilst Lubbock Christian falls to 3-2 overall and 2-2 conference record.

Angelo State and Lubbock Christian began the first set slow as both teams traded points back and forth to try and gain an advantage over the other, but a kill from both
Sophia Berg and
Lindsey Ledyard tied the set at 10-10 with ASU in charge of the serve. With Ledyard back to serve for ASU, the Belles quickly gained a three-point lead over the Chaps, 14-11.
With kills from
Kailyn Gilbreath and
Elsa Lamphere, along with errors from the Chaps and several block assists from ASU, the Blue and Gold quickly extended their lead to six over Lubbock Christian, 19-13. Gilbreaths' serving abilities, plus kills from Berg and Lamphere, brought ASU to a 25-15 defeat of the Lady Chaps in the first set.
In the second set, with
Chloe Patton back to serve for the Belles, multiple kills from Lamphere, Berg, and Gilbreath, along with several errors from the Chaps, ASU quickly jumped to an 9-3 lead over Lubbock Christian. Several attack errors from the Chaps and several kills from Anmarija Mikovic extended ASUs' lead even further to nine over the Chaps, 14-5.
Angelo States lead grew to double digits at 13 over the Chaps with multiple errors from LCU and several kills from Gilbreath and Lamphere at 21-8. Lubbock Christian managed to score four more points on the Belles, but a kill from both Berg and Lamphere each, plus a service error from the Chaps brought ASU to a 25-12 victory over LCU, bringing Angelo State to a 2-0 set lead over the Chaps.
Set three started off slowly for Angelo State as Lubbock Christian quickly gained a 7-4 lead off of multiple kills and a service ace. The Chaps went on a three-point run to extend their lead to five over Angelo State at 10-5, but the Belles responded quickly with a four-point run of their own to cut their deficit to one, 11-10.
ASU and LCU traded points back and forth, tying the match up at several different points, until
Morgan Preston came to serve for Angelo State. Preston served for six straight points as Berg and Gilbreath each added two kills to their repertoires to give ASU the lead and extend it to six over the Chaps, 22-16. Two kills from Mikovic and a very quick attack from
Grace White defeated the Chaps in the third set, 25-19, the Belles sweeping the Chaps in three straight sets to take the first match of a two match series.
Key Players:
- Gilbreath continues to lead the Belles offensive front, scoring 14 points and registering 11 kills for the Belles. Grabbing 11 digs and two assists, as well as one service ace and four block assists, Gilbreath continues to show why she was nominated for LSC preseason honors.
- Ledyard also showed her skills and why she was named for preseason honors as well, registering 33 assists for Angelo State, along with three block assists and six digs, scoring one kill and 2.5 points.
- Makenna Hanssen tied for the most digs for Angelo State, registering 11 digs alongside Gilbreath, along with a single assist.
