SAN ANTONIO – Facing their first road conference match of the season, the Angelo State women's tennis team dropped their match this afternoon to rival St. Mary's 4-3, a match in which the Belles tried to mount a comeback in singles play but ultimately came up short.
It was a rough start in the match for the Belles. The 20
th-ranked pairing of
Valentina Gonzalez and
Ena Ovcina won their match at line one, 6-2, but the Belles were unable to earn the doubles point as the Rattlers claimed wins at lines two and three.
Dianela Rodriguez defeated 13th-ranked Maria Garcia on the singles side at line two in straight sets.
Ayda Guler came back to win her match despite dropping the first set at line five against the Rattlers' Alice Thane.
The Rambelles' final point came courtesy of
Ramitha Irrinki, who won her match at line six after winning the tiebreaker 10-8 in set one.
The Rambelles are now 8-5 overall on the season and 1-1 in conference play. They return to action next weekend at home, hosting DBU on Friday before welcoming Midwestern State on Saturday.
