Rams Down ENMU in the First Game of the Series

PORTALES, N.M. – The 12th-ranked Angelo State baseball team came alive at the plate on Thursday as the Rams opened the series against Eastern New Mexico with a 25-4 win at the Greyhound Baseball Field.

With the win, the Rams improve to 29-10 overall on the year and 27-10 in Lone Star Conference play while the Greyhounds move to 15-22, 14-21 LSC.
 
ASU jumped ahead right out of the gate, scoring seven runs in the first inning. After a double by Justin Lee scored the first run, Tripp Clark brought in three more runs on a double of his own. The Rams added three more runs off hits by Thomas Cain and Austin Beck.
 
In the third inning, Aaron Walters hit a single to score Koby Kelton and Beck, extending the ASU's lead to nine runs. The Greyhound got two runs back in the bottom of the inning, hitting two singles and a triple.
 
Benjamin Elder earned his fifth win of the day as he started on the mound, throwing six innings with six hits and three runs, striking out four batters. Parker Tennill pitched one inning in relief, allowing one hit and a run.
 
The Rams combined for 13 hits and 12 runs in the next two innings, scoring five runs in the fourth and seven in the fifth. Kelton hit a two-RBI double while Cain singled to score two runners as well. ASU added four other runs on misplays by the Greyhounds including two wild pitches.
 
Beck and Cain led the Rams with four hits each while four other Rams finished the day with three hits. Cain, Lee, Walters, and Clark each finished with three RBIs and five Rams came around to score three different times.
 
The Rams and Greyhounds return to the field tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. CST.
