SAN ANGELO – Coming off a 3-3 opening weekend at the Division II Spring Invitational Kickoff in Conroe, Texas, the Angelo State softball team returns home for their first game action of the 2023 season at Mayer Stadium, as they host the 2023 George and Ola McCorkle Challenge presented by Bahlman Cleaners.
The Rambelles will host seven games over three days, with the other two teams participating in the tournament being Texas A&M International and East Central.
As a team, the Rambelles are hitting .333; they have hit 14 extra-base hits and scored an average of six runs per game.
Six of the nine Rambelles who started four or more games this season have a batting average above .300, led by
Paxton Scheurer's .524 batting average.
The senior third baseman hit four home runs and drove in ten runs; she is slugging 1.095 on the season.
Ashlyn Lerma has a .500 batting average and has stolen seven bases in six games; she has also drawn a team-high four walks.

Tatiana Trotter is hitting .375, followed by teammates
Madison Fernandez's .350 average and
Maleya Burns and
Bailey Martinez, who are both hitting .333.
Torrey Hogan led the Rambelle pitching staff the first weekend with a 2.00 ERA and an opponent batting average of .264. At the same time, teammate
Genesis Armendariz has a 2-0 record and leads the team with 15 strikeouts in 16.2 innings of work.
Following this weekend, the Rambelles open conference play next weekend at home when they welcome West Texas A&M into Mayer Stadium.
SCOUTING THE DUSTDEVILS
Texas A&M International is 2-4 on the season; they ended their weekend at the DII Spring Invitational Kickoff with a no-hitter over Pittsburg State.
The Dustdevils are hitting .292 as a team and averaging 3.5 runs scored per game; they are led offensively by sophomore Tajanae Davis, who is hitting .474 and has driven in eight of the Dustdevils' 21 runs this season.
The Dustdevils' pitching staff owns a 6.15 ERA; Erika Cortez, who no-hit the Gorillas, has ten strikeouts in ten innings and has held opponents to a .189 batting average.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
East Central has yet to participate in a game in 2023; last season, the Tigers went 13-31 on the season, and at the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge last year, they went 1-4, capping the weekend off with a win over Bethany College.
All-GAC pitcher Taia Harris leads the Tigers. Last season, Harris picked up nine wins and had a 3.35 ERA, striking out 167 batters in 152.2 innings inside the circle.
Offensively, they return their top three hits in Gabi Quintanilla, Kenzie Lasker, and Megan Lesko.
