Canyon, Texas – The Angelo State volleyball team overcame adversity in the form of multiple deficits during their LSC Semifinal match against UT Tyler on Friday evening inside The Box on the campus of West Texas A&M, defeating the Patriots in five sets.
The Rambelles took set one 25-21 before the Patriots took set two 28-26 and set three 25-21. The Belles forced a fifth set with a 25-20 win in set four, claiming the match with a 17-15 fifth set.
The Belles fell down 4-0 in the final set but fought back to take the lead. The Patriots went on a run of their own to hold set point, but the Belles scored the match's final three points to win, with the final run featuring a pair of kills from
Evelyn Torres.
The Belles hit .286 for the match, out-blocked the Patriots 14-6, and had nine aces to the Patriots' four.
The Belles needed career-best performances from
Madi Parrish and
Adeline Ortman to get the job done. Parrish recorded a career-high 25 kills and hit .311 for the match; she recorded a double-double, finishing the match with 13 digs.
Ortman assisted 59 times, her sixth match this season with 50 or more assists. She had four kills and tied for the team lead with 14 digs.
Torres joined her teammates with double-doubles, ending the match with 15 kills and 14 digs. She also led all players with a season-high four aces.
Caleigh Enax had 12 digs, while
Ireland Ferguson had nine digs off the bench.
Demi Carter had 11 kills and hit .450; fellow freshman
Sydney Thornton had seven kills and nine blocks.
The Belles are now 27-2 on the season and advance to the LSC Tournament Finals for the first time since the Spring 2021 season. They play tomorrow at 6 p.m. against the winner of West Texas A&M and DBU.
