No. 23 Rams Run Rule the Javelinas to Open the Series

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The 23rd-ranked Angelo State baseball team opened the series against Texas A&M – Kingsville with a win, defeating the Javelinas 15-5 on Friday night at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
 
With the win, the Rams improve their record to 27-12, 25-12 in the Lone Star Conference.
 
The Javelinas put the first runs of the game on the board in the second inning, scoring on a single and a double.
 
ASU quickly tied the game in the bottom half of the inning as Tayten Tredaway singled to right field to score Conagher Sands before Hunter Holt brought in Weston Valasek on a single to left.
 
The Rams poured on five runs in the third inning, three of them coming off a double by Tredaway to give ASU the lead. Holt followed that up with an RBI triple while Blake Wilhoite laid down a sac bunt to make it 7-2.
 
After Jackson Berry recorded the first out of the game, Dax Dathe came in to pitch, throwing 4 2/3 innings with four runs on six hits with four strikeouts. He earns the win to improve to 7-1 overall on the year.
 
The Javelinas added two home runs in the sixth inning, hitting a two-run homer to left-center to make it a three-run game.
 
Jacob Guerrero extended the lead for the Rams in the bottom of the frame, hitting a solo home run to left field to make it 8-5.
 
Seth Foster tossed two innings of relief for ASU, giving up one run on three hits with a strikeout.
 
In the eighth inning, Guerrero brought in another run on a double to left field before Tripp Clark homered for three more. The Rams loaded the bases before Wilhoite forced a walk for an RBI followed by an error by the Javelinas to make it 14-5. The Rams finished the game in the eighth at Guerrero came back up for an RBI single to earn the run-rule.
 
Caleb Heuertz closed out the game for ASU, tossing one inning without a hit and two strikeouts.
 
The Rams and Javelinas continue the series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
