SAN ANGELO, Texas – The third-seeded Angelo State baseball team will advance in the Lone Star Conference Tournament, defeating sixth-seeded Texas A&M International 9-2 on Saturday at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
Tayten Tredway led off the bottom of the first with a single while
Jacob Guerrero forced a walk before
Conagher Sands doubled to right center field to give ASU an early 2-0 advantage.
In the second inning, the Dustdevils loaded the bases with no outs before ASU's
Dax Dathe struck out three straight batters to keep the visitors off the board.
The Rams extended the lead in the third as
Tripp Clark brought in two runs on a single to left field before Sands tallied his third RBI on a single to make it 5-0.
TAMIU tallied a run in the fifth inning, hitting a shallow double to right field to cut the lead to four runs.
Dathe threw five innings of work, allowing only six hits and a run while striking out five batters to pick up the victory.
In the bottom of the sixth, Tredaway doubled to score
Blake Wilhoite before Sands tallied his second two-RBI double of the game to make it 8-1.
Mason Bryant threw two scoreless innings in relief, allowing only two hits.
The Rams tallied another run in the eighth as
Kamden Kelton hit a sac fly to score
Jacob Guerrero.
Alezeah Gutierrez closed out the game, throwing two innings with one run on one hit and a strikeout.
The Rams will travel to top-seeded Lubbock Christian next weekend for the remainder of the tournament, facing the winner of West Texas A&M and UAFS.
