Katie Squires in the first half accounted for the Rambelles' scoring, while Cadie Annett scored three minutes into the second half to tie the match. DeBacker, who was named an All-LSC first-team player on Wednesday, finishes the season with nine goals and her career with 34 goals and 80 points – both being second in the all-time ASU record books.
Angelo State ends its season with a 6-9-4 record, while TAMU-Commerce moves to 8-8-3 on the season and into a semifinals appearance at 2:30 p.m. on Friday against Abilene Christian.
“The girls played well and did a great job of playing through early nerves to put in a great effort,” ASU head coach Travis McCorkle said. “We started gaining some confidence and got a great goal from Brandie. It was a point in the game where we weren't afraid of giving up the lead because we were playing so well. Unfortunatly, we gave up some crosses early in the second half and they were able to capitalize on one of them. I think we can leave here feeling like we played a strong game and ended the season with a great effort.”
Hanna Horeis,
Katie Squires and
Maggie Schaffer led the Rambelles with three shots each, while
Morgan Harrison recorded six saves.
Lauren Carnes, Horeis and
Kaitlynn Glendinning scored the three shootout goals.
The match was the final one for DeBacker and
Megan Schaffer and was their 79th overall. With their 79th match, they are tied for the most matches played at ASU with Christy Knaub (2005-08) and Amber Korb (2005-08).
