SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State soccer team begins a five-game road trip on Sunday against St. Mary's. ASU was previously scheduled to play at Dallas Baptist on Friday night, but the game was canceled because of weather and will not be made up.

The Rambelles (2-2-1) are coming off a 2-0 win over Colorado Mesa last Sunday and will play St. Mary's (2-2-1) at 2 p.m. on Sunday in San Antonio at the Our Lady of the Lake Field. ASU is 0-0-1 on the road this season after opening the season with a 1-1 draw at New Mexico Highlands.

COACH QUOTES

Head coach Travis McCorkle (Sixth year at ASU, 52-41-15 record)

On where the Angelo State soccer team is at leading into this weekend:
"We should have some confidence coming off last weekend based on the intensity level we played with throughout the two games. We had a lot of effort and we played with intelligence. That was great to see. We still went 1-1 on the weekend though, so there is still a lot of growth we need to work towards."

On continuing the development of finishing with goals on offensive opportunities:
"If we were not creating chances, then it would be a negative. We are getting the shots and now we have to get the second part of it which is scoring goals. We have been working on scoring and we'll continue to work on it."

RAMBELLE PLAYER SUMMARIES

Dani Edwards, the reigning Lone Star Conference Goalkeeper of the Year, has continued her strong defensive play in goal for the Rambelles this season. The senior has recorded 14 saves and possesses 0.48 goals against average and has one solo shutout and teamed up with sophomore Shantel Wittke for another. Edwards has nine shutouts in her career and is a captain on this year's team.

Jenny Kotowych and Kathleen Keoughan lead ASU with two goals each in their freshmen season. Kotowych scored both of her goals in a 3-0 win over Wayland Baptist, while Keoughan scored against New Mexico Highlands and Wayland Baptist. Keoughan was last week's LSC Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts. Sierra Anderson leads the offensive attack with 16 shots and has one assists.

Maggie Schaffer scored the 11th goal of her career and first of the season last Sunday against CMU, while Brianne Brown scored the first goal of her career off a header on a corner kick from freshman Kelli Regan. The assist was Regan's team-leading second of the season. Selena Alvarez also has a goal this season and Katie Squires has six shots and Haley Mendel has an assist.

ASU, which led the conference in defense last season, is once again atop the defensive categories after the first two weeks of the season. The defense is led by team captain Jordan Benfield, Caitlyn Conaway (LSC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year), Lauren Perry, Trisha Killen and is getting strong play from Brittany Martinez who is seeing time as a defender after playing in the midfield her first two seasons at ASU.

Angelo State vs. St. Mary's Rattlers
The Rambelles will travel to San Antonio where they'll play St. Mary's in their first game against a Heartland Conference foe. The Rattlers are 2-2-1 entering a Friday night contest against Texas A&M-Commerce with their wins coming over Texas Southern and Houston-Victoria. St. Mary's is on a two-game losing streak after falling to Colorado School of Mines and New Mexico Highlands last weekend.

The Rattlers highlight of the season came in an 8-0 win over UHV with Katie Kasperitis scoring three goals following a two goal performance against Texas Southern. Kasperitis is a junior forward from Corpus Christi and now has 22 goals in her career. Amanda Cardoza has two goals, while Kristal Williams has three assists. Alyssa Tarmona and Paola Ostos have each played in goal with Tarmona having 22 saves in 332 minutes and Ostos recording seven saves in 135 minutes.

ASU has not played the Rattlers since earning a 3-1 win in San Antonio in the 2008 season.
