SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State soccer team will be on the road again this weekend, taking on Eastern New Mexico at 8 p.m. CST on Friday and facing West Texas A&M at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The Belles have seven wins on the year to just two losses and one tie, and the losses were the only two times this season that the ASU offense has been shut out.
Angelo State has one of the top scoring offenses in the country is the best in the Lone Star Conference, scoring 2.5 goals per game. The Belles have 25 total goals this season, just four less than they had all of 2016.
The offense is led by sophomore Trenadey Scott, who is no. 8 in the nation and first in the LSC in goals per game. Scott has scored 10 times this season, and the next closest LSC attacker has six. The Fort Worth native also has two assists this year for a total of 22 points.
Second on the team in goals and points is forward Cassandra Moosburger, who has scored five times and assisted a pair of goals as well. ASU has also gotten multiple goals this season from Elizabeth Rodriguez and Mackenzie Broderick who have three and two goals, respectively.
Five other Belles have scored a goal this season, including Molly Warren and Janessa Dunbar who got their first goals of the season last Sunday against Texas Woman's. Tiffany Dang, Analise Watson and Avery McNeme have also scored.
McNeme is also tied for the team lead in assists this season, as the freshman has helped on three goals, and Megan Allen also has three assists.
Defensively, the Belles are led by goalkeeper Sammy Cude, who has started every game in goal and ranks second in the LSC with 5.9 saves per game. The sophomore has allowed 1.37 goals per game and earned two shutouts for the year.
Cude has been helped by a strong back line made up of Callie Smith, Marissa Brezgiel, Kyah Carlsen, Meagan Denn, Molly Warren, Janessa Dunbar and Kylie Deel. The Belle defense allowed a season low in shots on goal the last time they faced Eastern New Mexico at just three for the game.
ENMU comes into the game with having not allowed a goal in its last two matchups against West Texas A&M and Midwestern State, both of which ended in 0-0 ties. The Greyhounds have been unable to score themselves, however, going scoreless in their last four matches. Ariel Lopez leads the team with three goals and a pair of assists. When ASU took on ENMU earlier this season in San Angelo, the Belles came out on top 3-0.
West Texas A&M is the team currently ranked No. 2 in the LSC, just a point behind Angelo State. The Belles and Lady Buffs fought to a 2-2 draw the last time the two teams matched up. WT has not lost a conference game yet this season, but did lose its most recent matchup with Oklahoma Baptist 1-0. Marlene van Mouirik leads the team with an average of 4.75 shots per game.
