SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State soccer team lost just its second match of the season on Friday night in Commerce, Texas, falling 3-0 to Texas A&M-Commerce.
The Belles (6-2-1, 3-1-1 LSC) got off 12 total shots on the night, with an even six and six in each half. Six of the ASU shots were on goal.
"We have a lot of youth on our team. It has helped us fight back some in games so far this season, but our inexperience hurt us some tonight in executing what we wanted to do," Angelo State Head Soccer Coach Travis McCorkle said. "Now we've gained that experience and need to be ready for a better performance on Sunday. I believe this team can do that."
Texas A&M-Commerce got on the board early in the matchup, scoring in the fifth minute to take a 1-0 lead. It would be the only score of the first half, as TAMC got off 10 more shots in the half and ASU got off six in the opening period.
Belle goalkeeper Sammy Cude helped keep the Lions at bay, making five saves the rest of the half. The California native made nine saves overall in the game, which was her second highest single-game total of the season.
Angelo State sophomore Trenadey Scott nearly tied up the game almost immediately in the start of the second half, firing a shot on goal just three seconds after the half began, but it was saved. Scott was tied for the team lead in shots at the end of the game with three, two of which were on goal.
Junior Cassandra Moosburger also had two shots on goal in the game and Megan Allen and Avery McNeme had one apiece. Ally Warren, Analise Watson and Morgan Sibson all had shots as well.
TAMC scored two more times in the half, in the 69th and 79th minutes, building a lead they would hold until the final whistle.
ASU will face Texas Woman's next, taking on the Pioneers at 2 p.m. on Sunday in Denton, Texas.
