ALBUQUERQUE - The Angelo State soccer team earned its first comeback win of the season on Sunday afternoon, scoring two late goals to beat New Mexico Highlands 3-2 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The win moved the Belles to 2-1 on the regular season, and the game saw two ASU players score their first goals of the season.
NMHU got on the board first in the game with quick goal to take a 1-0 lead.
With just over two minutes left in the first half, however, sophomore forward
Trenadey Scott got the Belles on the board and tied the game up at one. The goal is Scott's third of the season.
Highlands got another goal in the second half to retake the lead, meaning ASU would have to come back again.
This time the tying goal came from a newcomer to the Belles, as junior forward
Cassandra Moosburger found the back of the net for her first Angelo State goal.
Quickly following Moosburger's goal, ASU earned a free kick, which junior midfielder
Analise Watson took and fired into the goal with just over 15 minutes left in the game. The goal was Watson's first of the season after she scored two in 2016.
The Belles held onto the lead for the final 15 minutes, ending the game with a 3-2 win.
Full statistics from the match will be posted as soon as they are available.
The Belles will be at the ASU soccer field for their next match, playing their home opener at noon on September 17 against Southwestern Oklahoma State.
