No. 12 Belles Take on Top-Ranked DBU in LSC Championship

SAN ANGELO, Texas – After tallying nine straight wins on the season, the 12th-ranked Angelo State women's soccer will face top-ranked DBU in the Lone Star Conference Spring Championships on Tuesday, Apr. 13, at 7 p.m., in Dallas.
 
The title match features both top-seeds from each division along with the highest-scoring offense in DBU, totaling 44 goals, against the league's top defense in ASU, allowing two goals all season.
 
LAST TIME OUT:
The Belles advanced to the LSC Championship match after a 1-0 overtime victory over St. Edward's in the semifinal last Saturday. After ending regulation without a goal, Cindy Rodriguez sent a free-kick into the box while Gabby Villagrand jumped to head the ball in the corner of the net for the game-winner.

ALL-TIME SERIES: ASU leads the all-time series 5-2-0. Last Meeting: DBU 3-2 OT
The Belles hold the advantage in the all-time series against the Patriots, including three straight wins from 2009-2015. DBU snuck away with a win at home during the 2019 season, scoring the game-winner in overtime in the first season as members of the LSC.
 
SCOUTING DBU:
The Patriots enter the week with the top-ranking by the United Soccer Coaches and a 12-0-1 overall record. DBU did not drop a single game this season, with the only non-win coming against Oklahoma Christian in a 2-2 tie.
 
DBU made quick work of both its opponents in the LSC Tournament, defeating Midwestern State 4-1 in the quarterfinal round before following it up with another 4-1 victory against West Texas in the semifinals.
 
Offensively, the Patriots rank first in goals, goals per match (3.38), and total shots with 250 on the season. Ashley Merrill leads DBU and the conference with 17 goals on the season while Delaney Schmidt ranks third with eight goals and Marit Auee is fourth with seven goals scored. Kaci Parks and Jenna Patterson and one and two in the conference in assists with nine and seven respectively.
 
#RAMEM:
The Belles have not allowed a single goal during the LSC tournament, posting their seventh shutout of the season against the Hilltoppers on Saturday. Villagrand scored her sixth goal of the season in the semifinal match, ranking fifth overall in the league in goals scored. Rodriguez is tied for fourth in the LSC in assists with five.
 
With Kira Miller, Casey Crawford, and Bianca Troost all sharing time in goal this season, the Belles hold the highest save percentage in the conference at .913 and have tallied the most shutouts followed by DBU with five.
