Rambelles Set to Face Rattlers, Greyhounds

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Following a pair of stellar defensive performances, the Angelo State women's soccer team looks to continue their momentum as they face a one loss St. Mary's team Wednesday, Sept. 21st before traveling to Eastern New Mexico for a tough away match on Saturday, Sept. 24th.

NEED TO KNOW
  • ASU opens the season undefeated through the first eight games for the first time since the undefeated 2020 season.
  • Sophomore Grace Jordan leads the attack for the Rambelles, she has scored four goals in the first eight games, totaling nine points (4 goals, 1 assist).
  • Cindy Rodriguez registered her third assist of the year against Oklahoma Christian in the 3-0 victory, tying her for third most in the conference.
  • Senior defender Cassidy Hill was named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the week following two clean sheets and only four allowed shots on goal.
  • Kira Miller earned her fourth and fifth clean sheets of the season against Texas A&M International and Oklahoma Christian, she now has 33 in her career and is currently the LSC leader in shutouts (5).
  • Miller, the reigning Lone Star Conference goalkeeper of the year, has 19 saves eight games into the season, she needs 35 saves to break the all-time saves record at Angelo State after making four during match week four. She already holds the Belles all-time shutouts (33) and wins (50) titles.
  • Miller and Hill were announced as LSC preseason Goalkeeper and Defender of the year, both for the second consecutive season.
  • Hill and Miller have each played all 720 minutes of the 2022 season for the Blue and Gold.
  • Miller earned LSC Goalkeeper of the Week honors after a shutout and six saves in match week two against Colorado School of Mines and Regis.
  • The Belles have outscored their opponents 16-4 through six games, averaging 2.00 goals per contest, only allowing opponents 0.50.
  • The Belles have scored the sixth most goals in the LSC (16) and have allowed the second fewest goals (4).
  • Seniors Mia Czarnecki and Hill were announced as captains for the 2022 campaign.
  • ASU returns 19 of 28 letterwinners from the 2021 season which saw them advance to the second round of the NCAA DII National Tournament.
  • Head Coach Travis McCorkle enters his 15th season at the helm of the Belles program, looking to add more hardware following the team's second consecutive LSC Tournament Championship.
  • Assistant Coach Harold Muñoz enters his sixth season with the Belles, and Avery McNeme enters the coaching ranks as the Belles graduate assistant following five years on the pitch.
ANGELO STATE vs. ST. MARY'S
  • The Belles have a slight edge all-time against the Rattlers, sitting at 11-10-1.
  • The last time the teams played was in San Antonio in 2021 where the Rattlers claimed a 2-1 victory. Madison Maxey scored in that contest.
  • The Rattlers are currently 7-1 on the season, going 1-1-0 in the first week of conference play, losing a tight 1-0 match to St. Edward's, then deafeating Midwestern State 4-3 in an offensive showcase.
  • The Rattler's had four goals from four different players against MSU, Juni Ejere scored her eight goals of the season and Megan Copeland scored her fourth.
  • Ejere currently ranks second in the LSC with her eight goals, Copeland is in a tie for seventh most with four.
  • Copeland also helps facilitate the Rattler offense, as she also has four assists on the year, second most in the conference.
  • StMU was picked 6th in the LSC preseason poll, receiving 274 points after finishing 5th in the conference a season ago.
 
ANGELO STATE at EASTERN NEW MEXICO
  • The Belles hold a large series advantage over ENMU, 24-5-1 all-time.
  • The teams met in the 2021 season in San Angelo, Valerie Solis made a shot from the penalty spot to bring the Belles to a 1-0 victory.
  • The Greyhounds lost both matches to open conference play, losing 3-0 to both Midwestern State and St. Edward's.
  • In both of the Greyhounds victories, they have kept a clean sheet (1-0, 2-0); however, in their five losses, the Greyhounds have been kept off the score sheet each time (0-1, 0-2, 0-1, 0-3, 0-3).
  • Kelsey Medina currently leads the Greyhounds with three points on the year (1 goal, 1 assist).
  • The Greyhounds play at Texas Women's on Wednesday before matching up with the Belles.
  • ENMU was pinned to finish last in the LSC according to the preseason poll, only receiving 44 points after finishing the 2021 season 0-11-2 in conference play.
