Women's Soccer Starts A Five Game Road Trip Thursday vs No. 7 Colorado School of Mines

SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Angelo State women's soccer team starts a five-game road trip on Thursday night against regional opponent Colorado School of Mines, before facing MSU Denver on Saturday.

  • ASU goes on the road for a five-game stint before returning home Sept.23 against Midwestern State in Lone Star Conference Action. 
  • Katelin Heise and Mia Czarnecki were announced as captains for the 2023 campaign.
  • Abby James slotted home two goals and assisted two in the first two matches.
  • Amber Lockwood earned her first clean sheet of the season against East Central, the first of her career as a Belle.
  • In game one of the seasons Shaelyn Ward hit a header for the game drawing goal to end the game 3-3 vs Central Oklahoma.
  • In game two vs East Central the Belles won 4-0. All goals were scored by substitutes.
  • The Belles are ranked 6th in the first United Soccer Coaches South Central Regional Poll.
 
ANGELO STATE at COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES
  • The Belles and Orediggers have matched up only two times to date, both capturing one victory.
  • The last time the teams played was in San Angelo in 2022, where the Belles and Orediggers drew 2-2.
  • Mines finished first in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) last season with a record of 18-2-3.
  • The Orediggers leading goal scorer from 2022 returns, Reese McDermott, who scored 15 goals and registered 32 points in her second year.
  • Mines was pinned to win the RMAC in their preseason poll. The Orediggers received nine first-place votes and 131 points overall.

  • The last time the teams met was in the 2014 season, where the Belles came away victorious 2-0.
  • MSU Denver went 0-0-2 in the first week of the season, Drawing with Midwestern State and St. Edwards 0-0.
  • MSU Denver finished fifth in the RMAC last season with a 12-4-4 record. The Roadrunners were selected to finish fifth in the RMAC preseason poll.
