Hall of Honor
Hawkins was a two-time NCAA Division II national champion in the 400-meter hurdles and a two-time All-American during his time at Angelo State. He is a member of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II Hall of Fame and was a member of the 1984 U.S. Olympic team.
He won two Lone Star Conference titles in the 400-meter hurdles and holds all top ten marks in the 400-meter hurdles at Angelo State. After winning the 1983 NCAA Division II title, Hawkins competed at the Division I Championships finishing second. He continued his career at the U.S. Olympic Trials running a 48.28 to capture the final spot for the 1984 Olympics where he placed sixth overall.Â
