SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State tennis team will host No. 7 St. Mary's at 10 a.m. this Friday at the ASU tennis courts.
The Belles come into the match off back-to-back wins at the Ouachita Baptist Team tournament and with a 4-2 record overall, while the Rattlers are a perfect 6-0 on the year.
Free donuts will be provided to fans at the match.
Maria Delgadillo led the Belles last weekend in Arkadelphia and has been their most consistent performer on the court this season. Delgadillo was a perfect 3-0 las weekend in singles competition last weekend as well as 2-1 in doubles. This spring, she has suffered just one singles loss to five wins.
Her doubles partner, Ena Ovcina, has also had a strong spring. A native of Sweeden, Ovcina has played on court one in singles competition and is 4-2 there this spring. Together, Delgadillo and Ovcina are 5-1 in doubles.
Yasmine Ansari has been the main player on court three this season for the Belles, and has gone 4-1 there in 2018. Ansari has also posted a 3-2 record in doubles competition this season where she plays with Virginie Becht.
Becht has played as both the No. 4 and No. 5 for ASU with a 3-2 record overall.
The final doubles pairing of Zoe Gubbles and Lucie Maitrot has gone 4-2 this year. Apart from each other, Gubbels has gone 3-2 playing on courts three and four, while Maitrot has posted a 4-1 record while splitting time on courts five and six.
St. Mary's is currently No. 7 nationally in Division II women's tennis as well as the No. 1 ranked South Central Regional team according to the Oracle/ITA rankings. ASU was No. 10 in those same regional rankings.
