PUEBLO, Colorado – The Angelo State tennis team won a pair of matches in Colorado on Friday, defeating Colorado Mesa 7-2 and finishing the day with a 9-0 win over Colorado State-Pueblo.

The Belles are now 10-5 on the season and have won five of their last six matches.

In the morning match, ASU got down early as the Mavericks took two of the three doubles points. The pairing of Yasmine Ansari and Virginie Becht was the only one to take a point for Angelo State, winning 8-6 on court three.

On court one, Ena Ovcina and Maria Delgadillo fell 8-4 and Zoe Gubbel and Lucie Maitrot lost 9-8 on court two.

The Belles made up the deficit quickly, however, as the match moved to singles. Ovcina and Gubbels were the first two to finish out their matches, as each earned wins to put the Belles up 3-2.

Becht followed with a win of her own, putting ASU just one more win away from securing the overall victory. Delgadillo provided the win on court two as the Belles locked up the victory.

Maitrot and Ansari finished out the dominant singles play by ASU with wins of their own, and the Belles won the first match of the day 7-2.

High winds in the area forced a delay of the second match until 7 p.m. MST, but the Belles were ready when the time to play finally came.

It was Angelo State that jumped out to the early lead this time, taking all three of the doubles points.

The Belles continued the dominant performance as the match moved to singles, winning the first set on all six courts. Quick wins from Becht and Melanie Dreux helped ASU clinch the match win with a 5-0 lead.

ASU finished out the win strong, winning on the final four courts as well for a 9-0 victory.

The Belles will remain in Colorado for one more match this weekend, facing Metropolitan State at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
