KINGSVILLE – In only their second year since being reestablished, the Angelo State women's tennis team clinched a share of the Lone Star Conference title with a 4-3 win on the road at Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday afternoon.
In doubles, the team of Valentina Gonzalez and Ena Ovcina won 6-3 at number one and Zoe Gubbels and Lucie Maitrot won 6-3 at number two, offsetting the loss (6-3) by Maria Delgadillo and Virginie Becht at number three. This put ASU ahead 1-0.
In singles, Valentina Gonzalez won 6-3, 6-4 at number one, Maria Delgadillo won 6-4, 6-2 at number three and Zoe Gubbels won 6-4, 6-3 at number four. Texas A&M-Kingsville won the matches at number two, five, and six.
The Belles move to 19-3 (5-0 Lone Star Conference) on the season and have two regular season matches left.
