Tennis Begins Spring Season in Arkansas This Weekend

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The 13th-ranked Angelo State tennis team will finally begin the 2021 spring season this weekend as the Belles travel to Arkadelphia, Ark., for two matches against Ouachita Baptist and Harding University.

The Belles face off against OBU at 10 a.m. on Saturday, before finishing the day against Harding at 3 p.m.

Angelo State was originally opening the season last weekend at home but had to postpone due to the winter storm.

The Belles have won first two home exhibitions, defeating Southwestern 7-0 before following that up with a 6-1 win over Trinity back on Feb. 5-6.

In their only counting contests this season, the Belles hosted the ASU Fall Invite back in October. Ena Ovcina finished 4-0 in singles play to win the single's championship for group A while Maria Delgadillo and Anna Schneemann teamed up to go 3-0 in doubles play against various members of the Lone Star Conference. Ayda Guler also performed well at the invite in her first action as a Belle, finishing 2-1 in singles while going 1-0 in doubles with Ocvina. Zoe Gubbles, Virginie Becht, and Schneeman also went 2-1 in singles play.

This weekend will be the final warmup for the Belles before they compete at the 2021 ITA DII National Indoor Championships beginning Feb. 26.
