San Angelo, Texas – The ASU Women's Tennis team opened their fall schedule this weekend, hosting the ASU Slam Fest at the ASU Tennis Courts and Bentwood Country Club on Friday and Saturday.
In flight one, Dianela Rodriguez dropped her opening match to eventual flight one winner Hana Kvapilova 6-1, 1-6, 10-12; she later came back to beat Deniza Marcinkevica 6-4, 6-3.
Flight two saw Ena Ovcina win her quarterfinal match before dropping her semifinal match; she finished third in her flight with a 6-2, 5-7 [10-7] win over Emma Kesterson.
Eva Schwartz lost her first two matches in flight three before ending her singles run on a high note with a 2-6, 7-5 [12-10] match victory over Celia Vaudiau.
Alexandra Vishnevskaya split her four matches in flight five, and Ramitha Irriki claimed the flight six individual, going 4-0 and defeating all four opponents in straight sets.
On the doubles side, the pairing of Ovcina and Valentina Gonzalez picked up a quarterfinal win in their first match in flight one, and flight two saw Schwartz and Esther Bowers split their pair of matches.
Flight three saw the doubles pairings of Vishnevskaya and Rodriguez, as well as Irrinki and Ayda Guler, go 2-0 to meet in an all-ASU final, with Guler and Irrinki prevailing 8-3.
The Belles are back in action in two weeks when they host the ITA Regional Championships.
