Belle Tennis Opens 2022 Season with Four Matches in Arkansas

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's tennis team will hit the road to open their spring 2022 season this weekend in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, with four matches over three days. Head coach Chris Bizot's squad is coming off a 2021 season that saw them qualify for the NCAA Regionals, as well as a fall that saw the Belles' top-two doubles teams qualify for the ITA Cup.

The Belles, who are 15th in the ITA Preseason Poll, are led in singles play by returners Dianela Rodriguez (ranked #29 nationally) and Valentina Gonzalez (ranked #31 nationally).

On the doubles' side, the pairings of Ena Ovcina and Gonzalez (ranked #5) and Ayda Guler and Ramitha Irrinki (ranked #22) are coming off a fall in which both pairings qualified for the ITA Cup, with Ovcina and Gonzalez defeating Guler and Irrinki in the regional finals to be named regional champions.

The Belles' spring exhibition schedule saw them go 2-1 with wins over Weatherford College and Tyler Junior College.

The Belles will face Mississippi College and Ouachita Baptist on Friday to open their season.

The Choctaws are 1-1 this spring; the Belles are 2-1 against the Choctaws, with all three contests having taken place in Arkadelphia.

Host Ouachita Baptist, like the Choctaws, are also 1-1 this spring; the Belles are undefeated against the Tigers in three meetings.

The Belles will take on Henderson State on Saturday before closing the weekend with Delta State on Sunday. The Belles are a combined 3-0 all-time against the Reddies and the Lady Statesmen.

Following this weekend of matches, the Belles return to action on February 24th and 25th in Oklahom for matches against Southeastern Oklahoma and Northeastern State.
